Robinson Cano Jr., the son of former Major League second baseman Robinson Cano, has reached a $1 million verbal agreement with the Miami Marlins.
Mike Rodriguez of Rompiendo Sports was the first to report Cano Jr.'s deal with the NL East organization.
While not official, the 16-year-old will sign with the Marlins during the 2028 international signing period. The right-handed hitter can't ink his contract for another 14 months. Players must be 16 at the time of the signing and turn 17 by Sept. 1 of the following year.
Miami will be thrilled if the younger Cano turns out to be as talented as his father, who earned eight All-Star appearances and won five Silver Slugger Awards in his 17-year playing career in the Majors.

Cano Jr. is a middle infielder who could often be spotted taking ground balls while his father was a member of the LMB's Diablos Rojos del Mexico.
Since his last MLB game in 2022, Cano has stayed active in professional baseball, playing in LIDOM in the Dominican Republic during the winter and with the Diablos during the summer.
He's also represented the D.R. at the Caribbean Series three times and played two games in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Of course, Cano Jr. still has years of development before making an impact at the big league level. He's likely to start his professional career in the Dominican Summer League.
Nonetheless, it's an exciting and intriguing update for baseball and Marlins fans.
