Game 5 of the World Series starts at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday at Tropicana Field. Milwaukee leads 3-1. Tampa Bay won Game 4 4-3 in 12 innings on Ben Williamson’s bases-loaded single, two batters after Jonny DeLuca’s single tied it.

The starters

Drew Rasmussen goes on three days’ rest after 89 pitches in 3 2/3 innings in Game 2. Milwaukee drafted him in the sixth round in 2018 and traded him to Tampa Bay in 2021.

Jacob Misiorowski started Game 1 and threw the hardest pitch in World Series history doing it.

Five Tampa Bay pitchers didn’t work Tuesday: Rasmussen, Garrett Cleavinger, Steven Matz, Cole Sulser and Freddy Peralta, who threw 87 pitches Monday. With the season on the line, everyone else is available too.

The World Baseball Classic in this series

Three men in Tampa Bay’s lineup played in March. Junior Caminero hit .350 with three home runs for the Dominican Republic, tied for the tournament lead. Jonathan Aranda played for Mexico. Liam Hicks, batting fourth, caught for Canada.

Two Rays relievers pitched for the United States. Griffin Jax started Game 4. Garrett Cleavinger was the least famous name on a roster with Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Paul Skenes and Tarik Skubal — he missed Mark DeRosa’s call with the invitation and had to ring him back.

“If you don’t know who he is, what are you doing?” Rasmussen, his offseason workout partner, said in March.

For Milwaukee, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras won the tournament with Venezuela. Brice Turang played for the United States.

Jonny DeLuca was invited by Italy and turned it down to compete for a job after missing most of 2025 injured. He said in March he was “a little jealous” watching Italy upset Team USA. Italy went on to qualify for the 2027 Premier12 in Barcelona this month.

Where it stands

Tampa Bay is the 11th team to force a Game 5 after falling behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven, and the first to do it on a walk-off while facing a sweep since the 1910 Cubs. No team has ever forced a Game 6 in a World Series from 0-3.

A ninth-inning replay overturned Cooper Pratt’s stolen base Tuesday, ending a Milwaukee threat three innings before Pratt homered in the 12th.

Aaron Ashby extended his postseason scoreless streak to 18 innings, passing Andrew Miller’s 2016 record for a reliever in a single postseason. Miller, now an MLBPA assistant, was in the building to watch it fall.
