Shuhei Fukuda, who appeared in 785 career games with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks and the Chiba Lotte Marines in Nippon Professional Baseball, has been added to the Tigres del Licey's coaching staff, the team announced.

Fukuda has served as a special assignment coach in the Seattle Mariners organization for the past two years specializing in outfield defense and baserunning. He played his final professional season last winter with the Mid-East Falcons of Baseball United, where he helped the Falcons win the league's inaugural championship.

“We are pleased to have someone from Japanese baseball join our family. Fukuda will contribute his expertise to strengthen our organization. We hope, in the future, to bring our baseball to Japan and introduce them to our team with the best fans in the entire region,” said Audo Vicente, the Tigres' general manager, in a team-issued press release.

With Licey, Fukuda will coach the outfielders and teach baserunning.

“I’m very happy to be here with Licey; it means a lot to my professional career. Everyone knows this league because it’s the best of all the winter leagues,” he said in the team's press release.
