The Clasico Caribeno, a two-game preseason exhibition series planned for early October featuring the Charros de Jalisco of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico and the Cardenales de Lara of the Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional, has been cancelled.
The announcement was made via a post on Instagram on Thursday afternoon, with the promoter, Chuly Events, citing the current immigration enforcement environment in Texas as the reason for the cancellation.
"Our community is at the heart of the Clasico Caribeno, and their safety and well-being must come first," the Instagram post said in Spanish. "We believe families should be able to attend a baseball game, celebrate their culture, and come together as a community without fear or uncertainty."
Scheduled for Oct. 9 at Riders Field in Frisco, Texas, and Oct. 11 at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas, the pair of preseason games would have been the first time the Cardenales hit the field for the 2026-27 winter ball season.
"The Cardenales de Lara fully supports the decision made by Clasico Caribeno to postpone the games that we were going to celebrate with great enthusiasm and expectation in Texas against the Charros de Jalisco, which were to be our first games with our fans," the Cardenales organization said in Spanish on the Instagram post.
The Charros expressed a similar sentiment.
"We hope to meet again with our fans in Houston and Dallas in 2027 to experience a great celebration of Latin American baseball together," the Charros said in Spanish in the post.
