A look at the Texas Longhorns and Houston Cougars in 2026

In 2026, the Texas Longhorns took a major step in the right direction during Jim Schlossnagle's second season as the head coach in Austin. The team finished with a 46-15 record and a 19-10 record in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play.

The Longhorns won a regional and super regional at Disch-Falk Field in Austin and made it to the College World Series. It was the first College World Series appearance for Texas since 2022.

In Omaha, the Longhorns won a game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, two losses to the Georgia Bulldogs knocked them out.

In 2026, the Houston Cougars finished with a 24-31 overall record and a 7-23 record in Big 12 play. The Cougars finished in last place in the Big 12 standings.

Houston is now entering its first season under new head coach Will Davis. Todd Whitting is no longer with the program after 16 seasons as the head coach.

Davis was the head coach of the Lamar Cardinals from 2017 to 2026. During that stretch with Lamar, he won 289 games and led the team to the NCAA Tournament this past season.

Texas and Houston played a midweek game this past season on March 24 at Schroeder Park. The Cougars won that midweek game 9-7.
