Samsung sends Chris Paddack against KT’s Young-pyo Go in Game 2 of the Korean Series on Wednesday at 4:30 a.m. ET (6:30 p.m. KST) at Suwon KT Wiz Park. KT leads the best-of-seven 1-0 after an 8-7 win on Tuesday.
The Lions were down 8-0 before scoring five in the seventh and two in the eighth and bringing the tying run to third base. Sam Hilliard’s two-run double in the first inning proved the game-winner.

KT: Young-pyo Go, the Submarine
Go throws underhand, a delivery that has essentially disappeared from Major League Baseball and that American viewers tuning in will not see anywhere else. He is also KT’s best pitcher: 15-7 with a 3.28 ERA in 29 appearances this season, the anchor of a rotation that finished second in the league.
He has had more than three weeks off. His last regular-season start came against Samsung on Oct. 11 — five innings, four hits, no walks, five strikeouts, one unearned run, and the win — and KT has been waiting ever since.
Samsung has been his best opponent. Four starts against the Lions this year, 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA.
But individual Samsung hitters have found him. Ja-wook Koo is 4-for-9 against Go, Ji-chan Kim 4-for-10, and Hyoung-woo Choi 3-for-11 with a home run. Lewin Diaz and Ji-hyuk Ryu have not managed a hit off him.
For all of that, Go has never won a Korean Series game. Five career appearances across 2021 and 2023, no wins, one loss, two holds, a 4.91 ERA.
Samsung: Paddack, and the Cowboy Match
Paddack is from Austin. Hilliard is from Mansfield, outside Fort Worth. They faced each other in the majors when Paddack was with San Diego and Hilliard was a Rockie.
Paddack has been calling the reunion a cowboy match.
“I really think of it as a cowboy match. It will be really fun when people from the same region face each other in a foreign country.”
They have faced each other once in the KBO, except they haven’t. When Paddack threw six scoreless innings against KT on Aug. 29 — his only start against them all season, six hits, seven strikeouts — Hilliard was on paternity leave for the birth of his second child. Paddack admits he caught a break. That game was in Daegu, so Wednesday is his first time on the Suwon mound.
Hilliard was unsentimental ahead of Game 2, saying Paddack starting doesn’t change his preparation.
“Even the best pitchers can throw mistakes or leave pitches over the middle. I’ll concentrate as much as possible so I don’t miss the pitches I need to hit.”
Paddack Has Been Worked Hard
He went 7-3 with a 2.95 ERA in 13 regular-season starts after signing with Samsung in July.
In Game 1 of the playoff round against KIA on Oct. 26 he threw 94 pitches and took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits including two homers in 4 2/3 innings. Four days later Samsung sent him back out on three days’ rest — the first time in an 11-year professional career he had started on three days. He allowed one run on six hits over 5 1/3 innings on 99 pitches. Samsung lost anyway, then won Game 5 to reach the Korean Series.
Wednesday is four days’ rest. Better, not normal.
“You never know when that opportunity is going to come where you need to go out there on short notice, especially in the Korean Series.”
He told Yonhap his body ached after the last start but less than he feared, and credited the training staff with extra recovery work in hotel rooms and on the team bus.
In his KBO debut against Lotte on July 18 — six scoreless, one hit, seven strikeouts — Paddack told a broadcast interviewer he wanted to give Daegu a championship ring.

He left LG last November for a three-year, 5 billion won deal with KT after winning Korean Series MVP for the Twins in 2025, and homered in Game 1.

What Game 1 Cost Samsung
Won-tae Choi lasted two innings and gave up five earned. Samsung then needed six more pitchers to reach the ninth. Jurado and Tae-in Won were held back and are available.
The comeback was real — ten hits, a two-run Ja-wook Koo homer off Daniel in the seventh, the tying run ninety feet away in the eighth. Park Yeong-hyun struck out the side in the ninth to end it. Samsung now needs a win in Suwon or goes home to Daegu down 2-0.
