After signing with the Tomateros de Culiacan in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico for the 2026-27 winter ball season, Robinson Cano looked to be headed towards another season playing for Lorenzo Bundy in Mexico.

But then, Cano apparently signed a deal to return to the Estrellas Orientales, his winter ball home in his native Dominican Republic.

Now, according to a report from Dominican Republic-based journalist Mike Rodriguez, the Confederacion de Beisbol Profesional del Caribe has ruled that Cano's contract with the Tomateros must be honored.

Cano has played 10 seasons of winter ball, all with the Estrellas Orientales in LIDOM, and appeared in six Caribbean Series representing the Dominican Republic, most recently in 2025 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, when he helped the Leones del Escogido of LIDOM win that year's Caribbean Series title.

In total, Cano has appeared in 145 career winter ball games, slashing .264/.316/.341 in 608 plate appearances with four homers and 66 RBIs.

According to the report from Rodriguez, Cano could still potentially play for the Estrellas this season if he were to be released by Culiacan.
