This week, the Oklahoma Sooners landed a big commitment from Landon "Scooter" Bonner. He is a top 15 player in the 2028 high school class, according to Perfect Game. The junior is ranked 11th overall nationally.

Bonner is also the number one player from the state of Texas in the 2028 high school class. This makes the commitment a huge deal for Oklahoma and is very impressive. The Sooners were able to recruit Bonner away from in-state Southeastern Conference powerhouses like Texas and Texas A&M.

A look at Bonner and Oklahoma’s future recruiting classes

Bonner plays baseball for Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. During his sophomore season, he had a .423 batting average across 26 games. Bonner also had four doubles, five triples, two home runs, and 12 RBIs.

Bonner was a threat on the base paths with 21 stolen bases. He was also a solid defender in the field, whether that be playing the middle infield or the outfield. Bonner finished with just six errors during his sophomore season with Hebron.

Bonner is a part of Oklahoma’s 2028 recruiting class that ranks 11th in the country, according to Perfect Game.

Despite the 2028 class containing just five prospects, four of them, including Bonner, are ranked in Perfect Game’s top 100.

The Sooners just had a recruiting class that ranked right outside the top 25 during the 2026 cycle.

In the upcoming 2027 cycle, Oklahoma has the 22nd best class in the country that contains 13 prospects. The one top-100 player in the Sooners’ 2027 recruiting class is Calum Andersen. He is an intriguing right-handed pitching prospect from Canada.
