The Los Angeles Queens took a 1-0 series lead over the San Francisco Firebells in Wednesday night's series opener of the Women's Professional Baseball League Championship.

Los Angeles still has plenty of work to do. The semifinals were the best two out of three, but the WPBL's final round is best three out of five.

The Queens trailed 4-1 after a big offensive inning from the Firebells in the bottom of the second at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.

Leadoff hitter Amanda Gianellon took her second at-bat of the contest in the second, drilling a grand slam off Queens starting pitcher Amira Hondras, who lasted just 1 1/3 innings.

Hondras was relieved by Jamie Mackay, who held San Francisco to two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in the final 5 2/3 innings.

Trailing 6-5 in the sixth, the Queens tacked on two runs with the help of an RBI double from third baseman Ashton Lansdell that tied the score.

Just a few batters later, they took the lead on shortstop Caitlin Eynon's sacrifice fly. Eynon went 3-for-3 and had a team-high two RBIs for the Queens.

Former Little League World Series star Mo'ne Davis continued her strong season with the Queens with an RBI single, one of two hits for her in four at-bats.
