Baseball United’s inaugural Cancún Week runs Nov. 5-7 in Mexico, held with the Tigres de Quintana Roo. It is the league’s most visible activity of 2026, a year in which it will not play professional baseball.

The Inaugural Season

Baseball United played 27 games in November and December 2025 at Baseball United Ballpark in Ud Al-Bayda, about 18 miles outside Dubai. The Mid East Falcons beat the Mumbai Cobras in the three-game championship series. Munenori Kawasaki was series MVP.

WBN’s Leif Skodnick covered the season on the ground in the UAE, including his final notes from the inaugural United Series.

A New Front Office

Co-founder, chairman and CEO Kash Shaikh stepped down March 1 and is now chief marketing officer and head of international at Perfect Game. Co-founder John Miedreich was named CEO, Barry Larkin chairman of the board, and Adrián Beltré and Robinson Chirinos vice chairmen, under a leadership structure announced in March. The ownership group includes roughly 20 former major leaguers.

No Season This Winter

On July 3 the league announced it would not play in 2026-27, pushing its next professional season to 2027. The announcement followed the outbreak of fighting between the United States, Israel, the UAE and other Gulf states and Iran.

Larkin told WBN in May, in a Q&A with Skodnick alongside Miedreich, that player and family safety would determine whether a season went forward. The league said it would spend the year on schools, coaching standards, federation relationships and fan engagement.
