Cam Schlittler
Schlittler is 14-6 with a 1.95 ERA and 239 strikeouts, top four in the American League in all three.
He shut out Boston in Game 3 of last year's wild card series and allowed two hits with 10 strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in the opener against the Red Sox last week. His career ERA against Boston is 0.47.
Freddy Peralta
Peralta started the season with the Mets and struggled through their first-half collapse before a trade to Tampa Bay. He has been a different pitcher since.
Over his last six starts he threw 34 innings with a 0.79 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP and 27 strikeouts, and the Rays won all six. He finished 10-11 with a 4.42 ERA.
This is his first postseason appearance for Tampa Bay.
Game 1
Tampa Bay won 1-0. Drew Rasmussen allowed one hit over eight innings and struck out 10, tying the Rays postseason franchise record. Jonathan Aranda homered off Gerrit Cole in the third for the only run.
New York's only hit came in the eighth, when Austin Wells doubled with two outs and was thrown out at third trying for a triple.
Giancarlo Stanton pinch hit to lead off the ninth in his first appearance since April and struck out.
Judge is out
Aaron Judge is on the injured list with a strained right calf and is not on the ALDS roster. He strained the soleus muscle on Sept. 16, an injury that typically requires three weeks.
He was not on the wild card roster either. New York swept Boston anyway, outscoring the Red Sox 18-2.
