Curaçao beat Nevada 11-2 on Sunday at Lamade Stadium to win the Little League World Series.

Pariba Little League of Willemstad finished the tournament 6-0. It is the island's first title since 2004.

Where Curaçao is

Curaçao is an island 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela, an autonomous constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. About 158,000 people live there.

It has produced Andrelton Simmons, Kenley Jansen, Didi Gregorius, Jurickson Profar, Ozzie Albies and Xander Bogaerts. In July, Andruw Jones became the first player born in Curaçao elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Albies sang the Curaçao national anthem in Williamsport this week.

How it happened

Second inning. Nevada scored first. Logan Edwards singled, Michael Kleiner reached on a bunt single and a throwing error, and Maddox Bryan lined a two-run single to center.

Curaçao answered in the same frame. Nathanael Jansen was hit by a pitch, Jordan Richards bunted for a single, Ruendrikson Leuteria sacrificed, and Shardijon De Lanoi singled to center to score both.

Fourth inning. Naeem Angel Coeriel walked, V-dien Ignacio Lindo singled, and Jaymiëll Martina doubled to center to score two. Martina struck out twelve in Saturday's international championship.

Fifth inning. Steven Felix singled and Jaymiel Antonia doubled. Nevada intentionally walked Nathanael Jansen to load the bases with one out. Jordan Richards and Leuteria struck out. Then De Lanoi was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and Juriënsly De Windt doubled to center to clear the bases.

Four runs, two outs, and the intentional walk had loaded them.

Sixth inning. Curaçao added three more. Zha-djir Janga singled, Giendry Ryan bunted for a single, and Coeriel walked. Janga scored on a wild pitch. Ryan scored on a Lindo fielder's choice. Raymiel Antonia singled, and Martina came home on a passed ball during Felix's walk.

The last inning

Nevada came up needing nine and put the tying run in the on-deck circle anyway.

Carsynn Meyer struck out swinging. Owen Guzman walked. James Esber walked. Hudson Cowley was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Curaçao went to Steven Felix, who struck out Brooks McFarland looking.

Jace Ward flied out to Giendry Ryan in center to end it.

Nevada's tournament

Paseo Verde of Henderson finished 4-1. It beat Hamilton 6-5 on a walk-off on the first day, shut out Tacoma 5-0, beat Davenport 14-6, and run-ruled Hamilton 12-2 for the U.S. championship.

Carsynn Meyer was the first girl to play in a Little League World Series final since Sayaka Tsushima did it for Japan in 1998.

Nevada has still never won a Little League World Series. Mountain Ridge lost to Seoul in 2014 and Summerlin lost to Chinese Taipei last year.

Six innings, not nine

Little League games are six innings, not nine. The run rule ends a game early if a team leads by ten after four innings or fifteen after three, but it does not apply in the final inning — which is why Nevada batted in the sixth down nine.

The rest of Sunday

Japan beat Ohio 3-2 in the consolation game, scoring three with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. The winning run came home on a throwing error after Ayumu Hasegawa's walk-off bunt single. Hasegawa, at 4-foot-8, was tied for the shortest player in the tournament.
