Hanwha Eagles third baseman Si-hwan Roh is set to be posted for Major League Baseball teams per Jee-ho Yoo of Yonhap.

The Korea Baseball Organization requested that MLB post Roh on Saturday. Once he is posted, all 30 MLB clubs will have 30 days to negotiate a contract with him.

Roh signed the largest contract in KBO history before the season, agreeing to an 11-year, $23 million extension. The contract was set to take effect in 2027. If he signs with an MLB club, he will retain the option to return to Hanwha if he eventually comes back to the KBO. As part of the agreement, Hanwha agreed to post him after the 2026 season, and the club has followed through.

If Roh signs with an MLB club, the Eagles will receive a posting fee equal to 20% of the first $25 million of his contract, 17.5% of the next $25 million and 15% of any amount exceeding $50 million.

Roh was selected third overall in 2018 and made his professional debut in 2019. Since then, he ranks sixth in the KBO with 153 home runs. After an inconsistent first four seasons, Roh put everything together in 2023. He posted a .929 OPS with 31 home runs and 101 RBIs, finishing second in MVP voting.

Over the past four seasons, Roh ranks second in the KBO with 116 home runs and 20th in OPS at .863. In 2026, he hit .283/.360/.505 with 29 home runs and 96 RBIs.

Although Roh has established himself as one of the KBO’s most consistent power hitters, his 2026 season featured a decline in his walk rate and an increase in his strikeout rate. His 8.9% walk rate was his lowest since 2020, while his 25.7% strikeout rate was his highest over that same span. His strikeout rate increased by more than 5 percentage points, and his declining contact rate is an area he will need to improve significantly to find success in MLB.

Although Roh has primarily played third base in the KBO, with occasional appearances at first base, he will likely move to first base exclusively if he makes the transition to MLB. Concerns about his range and athleticism at third base could limit his defensive options. Ultimately, his bat will determine whether he can establish himself at the major league level.
