The man who replaced Hall of Famer Derek Jeter at shortstop for the New York Yankees is reportedly hanging up his spikes.
According to a report from Beisbolpuro on X, Didi Gregorius has decided to retire after a 19-year professional baseball career.

Gregorius, 36, played 11 seasons in Major League Baseball with the Cincinnati Reds (2012), Arizona Diamondbacks (2013-14), Yankees (2015-19), and Philadelphia Phillies (2020-22).
Across 1,077 games, Gregorius hit .257/.308/.420 with 134 home runs and a .728 OPS. He never earned an All-Star selection but finished 20th in AL MVP voting in back-to-back seasons from 2017-18.
The left-handed swinger was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and his family moved to Curaçao in 1995. Gregorius represented the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the 2017, 2023, and 2026 editions of the World Baseball Classic. He also suited up for Curaçao at the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami, Fla.
After his release from the Phillies in 2022, Gregorius signed with the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol's Algodoneros de Union Laguna. He has spent parts of four seasons with the LMB club and has posted a .658 OPS and three homers in 189 trips to the plate this season.
In 2023, Gregorious was selected third overall in the inaugural Baseball United draft by the Arabia Wolves. He returned to Mexico after BU's All-Star showcase event in Dubai.
Twenty years from now, Gregorious may be best remembered in a Yankee uniform. He brought energy and passion on defense at shortstop and had the impossible task of taking over a franchise icon's role.
During the spring, he was seen hanging around New York's spring training fields in Tampa, Fla. Perhaps Gregorious would like to pursue a player development role if his playing days are truly over.
