If New York wins, it opens the Division Series at Tampa Bay on Saturday. If Boston wins, Game 3 is Thursday at Yankee Stadium.
In earlier games Wednesday, Philadelphia beat Atlanta 4-3 in 10 innings to force a Game 3, ending on the first walk-off ABS challenge in postseason history. Chicago leads Houston 7-3 with two outs in the ninth and is on the verge of the Division Series. The White Sox lead the American League Wild Card Series 1-0 and advance with a win.
Chicago scored four in the first. Kyle Teel and Tristan Peters drove in runs and Andrew Benintendi singled home two more on a ball Lucas Spence misplayed in center. Hunter Brown was pulled with two outs in the first after allowing five hits and three earned runs on 36 pitches.
Houston answered with solo home runs from Jeremy Pena, Cam Smith and Jose Altuve. Chase Meidroth hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put it away.
