As Nippon Professional Baseball's postseason approaches, many of Japan’s young talents are headed south to the Miyazaki Phoenix League, an annual fall instructional league that offers extra competition after the regular season.

This year’s league runs from October 7–28 across Miyazaki Prefecture. Participants include all 12 NPB organizations, unaffiliated NPB farm clubs (Hayate Ventures Shizuoka and Oisix Niigata Albirex), the Korean Baseball Organization's Hanwha Eagles and Doosan Bears, and two representatives from independent leagues (Japan Regional Professional Baseball and Shikoku Island League Plus).
The league serves a similar purpose to the Arizona Fall League, extending the season for prospects and supporting their development against diverse competition, though some experienced NPB players also participate briefly to stay sharp for the playoffs or as part of a rehab assignment.
