The Navegantes del Magallanes are getting an offensive boost.

New York Mets catchers Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens have reported to the Navegantes for the 2026-27 LVBP winter ball season.

According to Phillip Feliz on X, the Mets did not permit Alvarez to play behind the plate. Assumingly, he will spend his time at first base and designated hitter.

With this decision, New York's front office is hoping to avoid injury. Alvarez has previously suffered finger and hand sprains and fractures, but those occurred while he was at bat or running the bases.

This will be Alvarez's first time playing in the LVBP. The 24-year-old hit .233/.311/.399 with 16 home runs and a .710 OPS in 2026, his fifth season in the Majors.

As for Torrens, there's no indication the Mets are holding him back from catching for Magallanes. This winter will be his fifth with the Venezuelan organization, playing his first season for the club in 2017-18.

Torrens, 30, hit .235/.295/.396 with nine homers and a .691 OPS in 91 games in 2026. His strong defense helped him accumulate a career-high 2.1 bWAR.

The Navegantes are 2-7 and in last place in the LVBP despite scoring 5.78 runs per game. Yadier Molina's club hopes to get back on track on Friday night against the Caribes de Anzoátegui.

Where to Watch - LVBP fans can stream the games live on BeisbolPlay for about $22.99 per season.
