The Charros de Jalisco advanced to the second round of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol playoffs despite losing their first round series to Monterrey, but when they face the top-seeded Toros de Tijuana, they'll be without at least one, and possibly two, key bats.
Former Major Leaguer Josh Fuentes left Game 5 of the first round series on Aug. 14 after being hit in the face by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh. After evaluation by a neurosurgeon, Fuentes was found to not have suffered any bone or brain damage, but had to get stitches in his lips and mouth that will keep him out of the lineup for two weeks, the team said in a post on the social media network X on Monday.

Outfielder Allen Cordoba is day-to-day with a knee injury, the team said in the same post, and is undergoing treatment. He may return to play during the series against Tijuana, which begins tonight at 10:35 p.m. EDT in Tijuana.
Fuentes has appeared in four playoff games for Jalisco this year, going 1-for-6 with a run scored, two walks, and two strikeouts.
Cordoba has been a key part of the Charros offense, batting .334/.404/.429 in 73 regular season games with three homers and 29 RBIs.
