On Monday, August 17, Jason Dietrich resigned from his role as head baseball coach of the Cal State Fullerton Titans. D1 Baseball's Kendall Rogers broke the news.

The Titans are now in the market for a new head coach as fall baseball rapidly approaches.

Dietrich and his five years at Cal State Fullerton

Dietrich was the head coach for five seasons at Cal State Fullerton. The Titans hired him in June of 2021.

Dietrich won 123 games as the head coach of Cal State Fullerton. His best season with the Titans was in 2023. That season, the team finished with a 32-24 overall record and a 20-10 record in Big West play.

The Titans made the NCAA Tournament that season for the first time since 2018.

Cal State Fullerton posted another solid conference record under Dietrich's direction in 2025. They finished 19-11 in Big West play, which was good enough for a third-place finish in the conference behind UC Irvine and Cal Poly.

In 2026, Dietrich's final season with Cal State Fullerton as head coach, the Titans finished with a 24-32 overall record and a 15-15 record in Big West play.

A big head coach opening

The opening at Cal State Fullerton is a big one in the college baseball landscape.

The Titans are a blue blood in college baseball with four national championships and 18 College World Series appearances.

Cal State Fullerton has not been to the College World Series since 2017. They have only made two NCAA Tournaments since that season as well.

Although a more difficult job now than it was decades ago, it still is a major program with a lot of history and should open the eyes of coaching candidates everywhere.
