Fubon Guardians closer Jyun-Yue Tseng became eligible for international free agency Wednesday, with an eye toward opportunities in Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball. Tseng was previously posted after the 2023 season but ultimately decided to remain in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

Tseng has established himself as the CPBL’s best reliever since making his debut in 2021 at age 19. He turned in another strong season in 2026, recording 65 strikeouts and a 1.57 ERA in 51 2/3 innings. He also set a career high with 25 saves for the Guardians.

In his CPBL career, Tseng has recorded 342 strikeouts in 291 innings, posting a 2.23 ERA.

According to The Merit Times, a National League Central team has expressed interest in Tseng. He could also draw significant attention from NPB clubs as he considers his options overseas.

Tseng would become the first Taiwanese player to leave the CPBL for an MLB team since the leagues established a posting agreement in 2019.

Tseng has also represented Chinese Taipei in World Baseball Classic qualifiers and at the main tournament in 2023 and 2026. One of his strongest international performances came during qualifying for the 2026 World Baseball Classic in February 2025.

In his lone appearance during the qualifying tournament, Tseng faced Spain in the final game. He recorded three strikeouts while his fastball reached 97.3 mph, generating four whiffs to get the save and send Chinese Taipei back to the WBC.

At the main tournament, Tseng got the save over South Korea in one of the most thrilling games of the entire tournament in 2026.
