The Florida Gators have gone on a tear recently within the 2028 college baseball recruiting cycle.
Catcher Jonathan Marzullo and infielder/right-handed pitcher Nolan Slaymaker both committed to the Gators during Labor Day weekend.
The two high school prospects are ranked in Perfect Game's top 50 list for the 2028 class.
Marzullo is the 34th-ranked player in the class, and Slaymaker is the 42nd-ranked player in the class.
Both players are joining a 2028 Florida recruiting class that ranks third overall in the 2028 recruiting cycle, according to Perfect Game. The only two teams with better recruiting classes early in that cycle are the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Marzullo and Slaymaker's recent high school baseball seasons
Marzullo plays high school baseball for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. In 2026, during his sophomore season, he was a MaxPreps Underclass All-American.
Marzullo finished the 2026 high school baseball season with a .483 batting average, 13 doubles, three home runs, and 27 RBIs. He also scored 11 runs for IMG Academy.
Slaymaker wrapped up his sophomore season playing high school baseball for Columbia High School in Lake City, Fla.
At the plate, he had a .289 batting average and three home runs in 76 at-bats. On the mound, a Perfect Game scouting report stated that Slaymaker has a mid-90s fastball with a solid curveball mixed in.
Florida's other high school recruiting classes
Along with a top-three 2028 high school recruiting class, the Florida Gators also have some elite recruiting classes in the more recent years.
The Gators have the seventh-ranked 2026 high school recruiting class and the 10th-ranked high school recruiting class.
Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan, per usual, is recruiting at a high level in Gainesville. The additions of Marzullo and Slaymaker to the 2028 class show that he is still maintaining a great foundation of recruiting high schoolers in the state of Florida.
