The Milwaukee Brewers made it clear on Sunday night that this year's National League Championship Series is not going to be the same as last year's.
While on paper it still looks like a David vs. Goliath story, this year's Brewers have already outdone last year's team. They hold a 1-0 series lead in the National League Championship Series after their 2-0 win on Sunday night.
Pat Murphy and his team will not admit it, but Game 1 was as much of a must-win game as they could have had. Losing with Misiorowski on the mound, staring at a date with Yoshinobu Yamamoto the following day would have been a tough position to be in.
However, thanks to an unlikely home run from Brice Turang and some small ball in the fifth inning, the Brewers' offense did just enough to put all of the pressure on their bullpen.
The Brewers' bullpen is no stranger to pressure, especially this October. Every pitch thrown by the Brewers this postseason has been in a game within two runs.
The Brewers' bullpen has a 0.38 ERA this postseason, covering 23 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out 19 batters. The dominant trio of Aaron Ashby, Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill was on full display against what many consider the best lineup in baseball.
Turang's home run off Tarik Skubal was only the fifth home run by a left-handed batter off the two-time Cy Young Award winner all season. It was also only the third home run all season by a lefty to go to the opposite field on a fastball on the inner third of the plate, according to Yahoo Sports' Jake Mintz.
A 1-0 lead is great, but the Brewers now face another elite arm. Logan Henderson will match up against Yamamoto in Game 2, and Milwaukee winning Monday's game could really get Dodgers fans sweating.
Henderson has pitched great in both outings against the Dodgers this year, but it will be hard to give him run support against Yamamoto, who has proven to be a postseason riser so far in his career.
Henderson has given up five hits in just 12 innings against the Dodgers this year. He has allowed one earned run and has 14 strikeouts against the star-studded lineup. A slumping Dodgers lineup going against Henderson could be trouble, so Yamamoto will have to be extra sharp.
