FBC--BAYLOR-ARANDA FIRED

Baylor fires Dave Aranda after Kansas loss, names defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman interim coach

SUMMARY: Baylor has fired football coach Dave Aranda after more than six seasons and promoted defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman as interim head coach for the rest of the season. Aranda took over the Baylor program in 2020 and led the Bears to the Big 12 championship and a Sugar Bowl victory in 2021. SOC--ENGLISH ROUNDUP

Man United humbled by Bournemouth to leave Carrick’s job under threat, Liverpool beats Brighton

SUMMARY: The crisis at Manchester United has deepened with a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth in the Premier League as under-pressure manager Michael Carrick’s bold call to drop captain Bruno Fernandes failed to pay off. Brighton was beaten 2-0 at Liverpool for a first defeat since August for the league’s surprise package this season. United’s winless run extended to eight games in all competitions after its latest setback. It came four days after a humiliating 4-1 loss at Como in the Champions League that was followed by critical comments to the media by Fernandes about Carrick’s tactics. The Portugal star was left out of the team against Bournemouth and didn’t make it onto the pitch. United tumbled to 16th place.

Good mood among fans attending the first NFL game in Paris, a day after protests and clashes

SUMMARY: A day after more mass protests and clashes in Paris, the atmosphere was jovial and upbeat among American football fans attending the NFL’s first game in France. Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints fans mingled around the Stade de France before kickoff. There was a visible but discreet police presence at the national stadium and about 76,000 fans attended the sold-out game won 16-10 by the Steelers. Security concerns in Paris dominated media discussions but did not dampen sprits much, with Saints fan Rachel Rushing saying “we’ve really enjoyed Paris” and “not had any issues.”

BBO--WORLD SERIES-RAYS-PERALTA

Milwaukee still loves him, but Freddy Peralta will try beating the Brewers in World Series Game 3

SUMMARY: Freddy Peralta spent his first eight major-league seasons trying to help the Milwaukee Brewers earn the World Series berth that continually eluded them. Peralta finally is in the Fall Classic. So are the Brewers. They just happen to be on opposite sides. The oddness of this scenario is apparent as Peralta has received cheers from the Milwaukee crowds even as his Tampa Bay Rays try to prevent the Brewers from winning their first World Series title. Peralta will be Tampa Bay’s starting pitcher in Game 3 on Monday.

BBO--WORLD SERIES-ASHBY

Brewers lefty Aaron Ashby nears postseason scoreless relief record with World Series save

SUMMARY: Aaron Ashby’s playoff struggles in previous years taught him how important it was to avoid getting caught up in the pressure of the moment. The mindset shift has helped the Milwaukee Brewers left-hander deliver one of the great runs by any reliever in postseason history. Ashby finished a five-out save after the Brewers rallied from a four-run deficit in a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays for a 2-0 World Series lead. He struck out Yandy Díaz and ended the game by stranding the tying run at third base.

Drew Rasmussen can’t make it through 4th inning as Rays blow 4-0 lead in Game 2 loss to Brewers

FBC--T25-TEXAS-EDGY ARCH

Steve Sarkisian likes the edgy Arch Manning who helped Texas avoid meltdown against Ole Miss

SUMMARY: Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wouldn’t mind seeing the edgy Arch Manning every week. The quarterback helped take the edge off what would have been a visceral reaction from Texas fans if the Longhorns had blown yet another double-digit lead. Manning did have two interceptions and lost a fumble that No. 7 Mississippi recovered for a touchdown in 19th-ranked Texas’ 34-27 victory. But he also led and finished off the drive to the touchdown that put the Longhorns ahead for good in the fourth quarter. The edginess came from a two-game losing streak that sent Texas sliding out of the top spot in the poll.
