Koeninger and his high school profile
According to Perfect Game, Koeninger is a top-20 player in the 2026 high school class. He played baseball for Keller High School in Texas and was also the number two overall player from the Lone Star State.
The only player who was ranked higher from Texas was Grady Emerson, who was selected second overall in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Koeninger is a legit two-way player that Tennessee can tinker with. He played shortstop and was also a right-handed pitcher in high school with Keller.
When it comes to his pitching, two big pitches Koeninger has in his arsenal are a mid-90s fastball and a curveball.
In Perfect Game's scouting report, Koeninger's curveball was "an elite level pitch with power and nasty biting life."
Koeninger led Keller High School to a 40-4-2 overall record, and the team also won its first-ever state championship.
During the season, he showed off his ability to hit, much like his ability to pitch. He had a .440 batting average with Keller and six home runs as well.
Koeninger is bringing big-time two-way talent and championship DNA to the Tennessee Volunteers in 2027. This makes him one of the freshmen people have to watch out for in college baseball this upcoming season.
