The best team in the Zona Norte is the best in Mexico.

Behind a combined three-hitter featuring the efforts of five pitchers, the Toros de Tijuana took Game 6 of the 2026 Serie del Rey 2-0 to capture the series and the 2026 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol championship four games to two over the Olmecas de Tabasco.

Starter Adonis Medina went five scoreless innings, allowing two hits, striking out five, and walking none, and relievers Adbert Alzolay, Jonathan Aro, and Roel Ramirez each threw a scoreless inning in relief before Brett de Geus notched his seventh save of the year for Tijuana.

Medina went 3-0 in the postseason, making six starts and throwing 27 1/3 innings with a 1.32 ERA, but that wasn't enough to earn the Serie del Rey MVP. Teammate Hernan Perez, who went 7-for-22 with a homer, two runs scored, and five RBIs.

The Toros starter didn't allow a hit until Domingo Leyba singled to lead off the top of the third, then escaped a minor jam when a fielding error by Perez gave the Olmecas runners at second and third with two out. Medina induced a 4-3 ground out from Marco Hernandez, and the best chance Tabasco would have all night evaporated. He threw a perfect fourth and fifth before handing the ball off the to bullpen.

In the bottom of the fifth, Junior Lake reached on a one-out single, then advanced to third on a two-out single by Jonathan Guzman. Guzman stole second, and Lake and Guzman scored on a single to center field by Gilberto Celestino.

That was more than enough, as the Toros bullpen locked it down the rest of the way.

Tijuana closer Brett de Geus, who ranked second in the LMB in saves during the regular season with 23, walked Marco Hernandez to start off the bottom of the ninth and allowed a one-out single to Oscar Gonzalez to put the tying run on base. But de Geus got Calvin Estrada and Alan Espinoza to fly out and end the inning, the game, and the series.

For Tijuana, the championship is their fourth in 10 seasons, with the Toros having won previously in 2016, 2017, and 2021, and the first for a team from the Zona Norte since 2021.

It's also the first for manager Roberto Kelly, the Panamanian former Major League outfielder who managed the Sultanes de Monterrey from 2018-25 and has a career 474-311 mark in the LMB.
